About EMail

After setting up a web site, the site owner can set up domain specific email accounts, like "contact@your-domain.com". The web hosting service providers normally provide POP, IMAP, and WebMail methods for web site owners to access their email.  The web hosting providers also provide SMTP server for sending emails for web site owners.

All web hosting service providers provide email hosting service in the web hosting package by default.  You can also use other email hosting service, like gmail to host your company's email (some extra confiuration required).

The POP mail access method will download all your email from the server to your local computer by default.  You can optionally choose the keep a copy on the server too.  The benefit of POP is that you can access email even you do not have a Internet access.  POP email access requires special software, like Outlook, Live Mail, etc.

The IMAP mail access method is similar to POP method, but it will keep a copy of the email on server by default.  This method will only download email meta info first.  Then download email body if required.  So, IMAP is normally faster than POP.  Since the email stored on server, you can access your email anywhere, as long as you have the Internet access.  IMAP email access requires special software, like Live Mail, Outlook, etc.

The WebMail method will allow you accessing your email anywhere, as long as there is an Internet access and an Internet browser, like IE, FireFox, etc.  Most web hosting companies provide Horde and Squirral webmail access.
